So things have been a little crazy as of late and I have not had the chance to post many photos because well I am like the worst at remembering to take photos of stuff I am working on and when I do remember to take them I forget to upload them so sorry for the lack of progress photos everyone.

I’m about a month out till my next con, Cosplacon, which I will be cosplaying as Steampunk March Hare for the Mad Hatter Tea Party, A secret cosplay for Sunday that I hope everyone loves, and Steampunk White Rabbit for the runway; omg this cosplay has been fighting me so much, but I hope everyone likes it because some of the people I’ve shown it to love the design.

Now I won’t be doing as much as I normally do during a con because, if anyone has looked at Cosplacon’s vendors list, I am the owner of The Rose Cosplay Cafe and we will be in the vendors room as well as hosting The Mad Hatter Tea, so yes I will be busy doing things, but not my normal busy. HOWEVER I will not be missing my chance to jump up on the runway as one of my fav Wonderland characters.

Oh and because I have nothing else to do XD I am going to be doing a random giveaway soon so keep an eye out ~_^

Excuse me while I do a happy dance. You see that big pink ribbon looking piece in the window? Yeah that is the dragon bra for the KcArtBra breast cancer fundraiser and it not only made third place this year and made it into the Halls window on the plaza in Kansas City, it raised $15,000 for the charity. That dragon, Hope, took a while to make, yes that is right I made that baby, and won against DISNEY. I was told to give up ever winning again and look to only raising a few hundred since Disney had entered. Who won or not does not matter because the money raised goes to a good thing, but for all those who said I would never make it this year all I must say is a picture is worth a thousand words.

Also, don’t just scroll past the bit about the body paints in pools/hottubs/bathrooms if you’re not a homestuck. I know there are Jack Spicer cosplayers and Adventure Time cosplayers that utilize body paint as well.

Great question! I wasn’t sewing savvy as well when I first started and I had my mother to teach me since I was two, but I know that not everyone has someone like that so I know that youtube has some great videos on how to sew for beginners and some of the local fabric stores does offer classes that for learning the basics they are great. If you are still in school (Middle School or High School) I would strongly encourage you to take any and all sewing classes that you can if the school provides them. For the funds, me, as well as my group members, do much of our shopping in the most thrifty way we can. For example if you want to cut out a practice cosplay, but don’t want to spend the money on muslin fabric; which yes people it can cost some money if not on sale, then go to your local thrift shop and find a King size sheet and make sure not to spend more than $2 to $3 on it. This way you can cut out your pattern and not cut into that fabric you saved your money up for. Another thing to keep in mind is COUPONS. Everyone has some form of a coupon out there and just simply typing in the store and the word coupon after will get you a 40% off one most of the time; also Handcockfabrics, JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, and Michaels crafts all take each other’s coupons and if you bring in an add from one of them some will even price match. While Cosplaying does end up adding up with each piece if you buy things one at a time and space out buying things with keeping to coupons and hitting up thrift stores, because they have been known to have fabric for sale as well, you can spend within your budget; sometimes even under, and come out with an amazing looking cosplay that looks like it cost you a fortune. Don’t believe me? My Robin Ciel dress which I do have photos of on here only cost me $50 to make. I found a full bolt of fabric (20 yards) for $8 at a thrift store along with the lace for the trim and back for only $4 for 6 yards of eyelet lace and $1 for 30 yards of lace trim, the bow on the front was a nice dress blouse for $1, the white underskirt was leftover from a torn up wedding dress (that was free), the flowers were bought at Hobby Lobby and I used coupons and only spent $5 for 20 of them, and the hoopskirt was a gift from my mother and father which was the rest of the cost. It can be done it just takes a little time and some good digging around. Had I NOT gone and done things that way the full thing would have cost around $900 to make from start to finish.

One last thing, myself and group members will be uploading videos soon on all the stuff I just posted, as well as some other amazing thrifty ideas to help all those out there who have a shoestring budget just like all of us do and sewing techniques as well (I am a trained sewing instructor in both home and commercial sewing)

Okay because I am in one of those moods right now, and some of the stuff I keep reading about how some cosplayers are acting is just making me flat out sick.

I do cosplay on a high level, but I didn’t start there. I started at the low end of flat out HOT GLUING my first cosplay together because well I really didn’t know what I was doing. I even cut and had my hair colored to look like the character; I didn’t look a thing like them, but the main thing was I had a blast running around as one of my favorite characters and I got a chance to hang out with my friends and other people who enjoy some of the same things I do.

Now I do this for a living. I make a bunch of cosplays, and each one I make my skill level becomes higher and higher, and yes I do enter in the runway because it is something I enjoy doing, I also judge from time to time; so I have seen both sides of that part of the cosplaying world and I still have the same feelings in the end which are- It doesn’t matter what skill level you are, how long you have been cosplyaing, how you cosplay, what you look like, or even what age you are the point is to have fun and enjoy yourself.

I have never once told someone to stop cosplaying because they do it differently than I do. No I tell them to not give it up and to keep going for it because even though I am on the competitive side of cosplaying; runways only, I get so much joy on the smiles on peoples faces when I tell them that they too look amazing, because they do! I have NEVER met a bad cosplayer the only thing I see as a bad cosplayer are those who think they are better than everyone else out there and for some crazy reason must put down others to feel better about themselves.

Now I am a pro cosplayer, I do modeling, book deals, runway, and all the rest of the stuff that goes along with that; and I know many in the same field as myself; heck I even know some people from Hollywood and Broadway stages, and let me tell you most are just as sick as I am of the people out there who are acting in such a way that it puts an ugly mark on cosplay.

We are all in our own way walking forms of art, and the thing is to have fun and enjoy being characters you love, and to enjoy the company of people who enjoy some of the same things you do. The normal world alone gives us all enough crap, so why then must we be treated worse by those who are in the end just like us?

So I am learning the lesson on how to make my own lace trim. I made a template then used an air dry marker to trace it out onto white cotton and used different stitching techniques to get the look I wanted.Once I finished the outside stitching I went back and cut around the edges to give it the look of lace. I need to go back and size up the center pieces because they are just too small for the pattern I am basing this off of.

Oh and if anyone wants to know this is for a Trinity Blood cosplay

So I’m starting to become busier with conventions, and for the most part I am so excited about going. I am once more getting back on the stage, after a year off for judging the runway, and will be doing more group cosplay entries. I miss doing group work so much and wow the way everyone in my group works together to hammer things out and get things built still blows me away. We have two months till our next convention and have half of our cosplay list started and some even half done. I’m starting to branch out and try some cosplays that I thought I could never pull off.

I’ll give a little background on me when it comes to cosplays and why I pick male characters. I may not be tall, hardly five feet, but because of the shape of my body and the fact that I have a small chest it makes cosplaying as a male easy for me. I never thought I could cosplay as a female character because I have always been told that while yes I was cute I would never do good at cosplaying any female character because I don’t have the bust or curves to pull any off and should stick to boys because I do just fine with that. So what did I do, I cosplayed or better term crossplayed for years. I put a dress on now and then, but that was when I was crossplaying still, but as a male character wearing a dress. The last few conventions I cosplayed as some female characters finally and had such a blast in it and not once was I told that I shouldn’t do that and should stick to crossplaying. I have only cosplayed as a my own gender a few times, each one as a character I loved and each time not only were the girls nice to me about it, but the guys were too. I rocked in my Lady Une cosplay from Gundam Wing, my Feferi God Tier from Homestuck brought some new challenges to me craftmenship wise and I just loved running around as her, and my White Mage Yuna let me run around as one of my all time favorite game characters. While I still will crossplay, I’m going to start cosplaying some of my fav characters starting with Sailor Neptune from Sailor Moon, regardless of how many times in my past I was told I could never pull her off.

So my message is this, ignore those who tell you not to cosplay/crossplay a character you like because of the way you look. It is YOUR cosplay, NOT theirs. So cosplay/crossplay who you love, and to those who don’t like the choice you’ve made well their opinion doesn’t matter.

So I’ve been in Texas since Thursday and just got home a little while ago. It was great to see my family down there, and to walk along the cost gathering shells and driftwood was fun to. I did go into town once; my family live in a very small town and there are little to no people and NO INTERNET, and ended up going up to a gamestop with my cousin and while he looked for some games I was just looking around and pointed out the Assassin’s Creed poster they had hanging up and was talking about how I was almost done with game one and about to start number two before I get three because I REALLY want to make the cosplays. The guy behind the counter was so happy that I knew what the game was, as well as the characters, and a cosplayer on top of it all. He gave me a limited edition Assassin’s Creed III print, it made my day.

I kind of feel like ranting right now, and I’m not mad at anyone, I’m just pissed that I have been pulled into a spot that I fought years to get out of and away from.

The first group I did group cosplays with really made me feel like shit. If anything went wrong, it didn’t even have to happen during con, it was my fault. Things were never done on time it was because I didn’t call them or let them know to show up, when I would leave messages and call asking their mom if they were still at home(which most the time yes they were they were still asleep and it was 1 in the afternoon) So I had to do a ton of the work alone and get nothing but shit as to how they couldn’t make it on time due to a million and one reasons. I showed up to work on stuff at 8 in the morning and by 4 I was so tired and that was normally the time they showed up, if they even showed up. (BTW while doing all this I was taking a full load at collage and making sure to maintain a 4.0 GPA) The day of the convention around 11 they showed up to do work on their stuff and I was in my mother’s office crying my eyes out and ready to quit cosplaying right there and then. Panicked and knowing that if I quit they wouldn’t have their cosplays finished in time the begged and pleaded with me not to give up. After that(mind you I had been doing group work with them since I was 16 and now I was 19) I never did a group cosplay again. I went to cons with them and some other people once more, but when it came to cosplaying I focused on my own stuff and the stress and feeling of that I was never going to be good enough was gone. I won back to back over all best and a judge’s favorite for the things I did on my own. Where I liked working on my own things I was now with an amazing group of people who wanted to make their own things, even if every now and then they might have to stop me for a moment to ask a question, but they still were willing to do the work themselves.

After so long of having not to deal with that shit it has come back once more. If you don’t like some of my work that is okay, my feelings will not be hurt. If I am acting like a bitch tell me, trust me I won’t be upset. If you would rather do something outside of the group that is okay, I don’t mind just give me a heads up so that I can make sure I can put the dates on the workshop days right so you can work on your other stuff. If you don’t want to do any of the things the group is doing that is okay too, just say something so we can post that we need a character for something. If I am hovering too much and you don’t feel like you are able to work on your cosplay tell me to go do something else, really it is okay.

Am I afraid to be doing group work again, yes.

Why? Because I got burned bad and because of it have trust issues when it comes to group work

I have an overstock of fabric that I’m selling for anyone who is interested. It is a man made leather that retails for $39 a yard and am selling it for $8 a yard. I got this stuff cheep which is why I’m selling it at such a low price, I have 500 yards of it and really don’t need that much. I gave some of it away at Naka this year, and am still trying to get rid of a ton of it. Sews well on just a home machine, I got up to 4 layers thick and it was still sewing amazingly, and is 100% machine washable! Min order is 1/2 yard Max there is none, if you want a roll of it there are 38yds a roll and it is 53in wide; for a roll please message me and we can talk about a different price.
